Best Locations for fall color | Mammoth Lakes

June 16, 2023

Fall color is a favorite time of year for most people. It’s no surprise to me that I get dozens of inquiries from eloping couples, engaged couples, families, and more to go out during the month of October. Did you know that the Eastern Sierra has some of the best fall color around? The aspens live at 8-10,000 feet, and there are countless spots to explore and find a range of yellow, orange, and red color. This post is about the 4 best locations for fall color near mammoth lake so you can pick one for your next photo session.

Here are some of my favorite resources for finding fall color locations near Mammoth Lakes:

Bishop Fall Colors

Fall Colors in Mono County

California Fall Color

Like wildflowers in the spring and summer, the aspen color change is ephemeral. There’s something a little extra magical about such bright beautiful colors that only last a few short weeks. I cannot ever promise to capture the golden leaves as they come and go as they wish along with the cold weather. Your best bet is to schedule your session between October 1 – 21.

Best locations to choose from:

  1. Northlake out of Bishop
  2. Rock Creek between Bishop and Mammoth
  3. McGee Creek
  4. June Lake area (photos coming soon)
  5. Lake Sabrina
  6. South Lake
